Florence Nightingale

Florence Nightingale is always remembered as the 'Lady with the Lamp' in the Crimea.

But she was in fact one of the first to use statistics to solve problems and is generally credited with being the first to create what she called 'coxcomb charts' to display data.

The Florence Nightingale Museum in London has several examples of her statistical work.
